There are many ways to skin a cat and many roads that lead to Rome.
Zirconia implants are another way of solving the problem of edentulism.
With an increasing number of people being conscious of what they introduce to their bodies and a natural aversion to metals, zirconia implants are the obvious solution.
This lovely patient was referred for the placement of a zirconia implant in a site with inadequate bone. The patient was always keen on a metal free solution but we were waiting for a 2 piece completely metal free fixture.”
Case Report
“The case was treated as follows:
1️⃣ Reflected a flap to allow access.
2️⃣ Drilled osteotomy to depth with versah drills according to osseodensification protocol.
3️⃣ Utilisation of Novabone putty to lift the sinus membrane ala Novabone Lift off as shown by @implantsdc @fienodontics @drphilwalton
4️⃣ Insertion of a Zeramex XT all ceramic fixture.
5️⃣ closure with 5/0 PTFE sutures.

About the Doctor
Dr. Dean Licenblat
Dr. Licenblat has been in private practice in Sydney since graduating from the University of Sydney’s Dental program. He is currently principal clinician at Sydney Dental Aesthetics & Implants located in Martin Place Sydney.
He has completed a master’s degree in oral implantology and bone grafting from Goethe University in Frankfurt and is up-to-date on the latest concepts and techniques. He has a teaching appointment from Goethe and is responsible for tutoring that university’s graduate students in Australia and New Zealand.
Dean is the principal investigator for a prospective randomised clinical trial that, for the first time, is studying the hard and soft tissue response to both titanium and zirconia implants in a split-mouth design. He has a special interest in bone grafting and innovative solutions to complex problems.
Dr. Dean Licenblat has one of a few dental surgeries to be awarded ‘Leading Implant Centres of the World’ in Australia. As a member of numerous dental societies and an unparalleled dedication to continuing education Dr. Licenblat often attends post-graduate educational programmes both locally and abroad. The results of which are cutting edge implant and bone grafting techniques integrated into the practice thus offering patients the most technologically advanced and effective long-term treatment modalities.

About the Doctor
Dr. Luis A. Alicea was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He pursued studies at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Dentistry. He then completed his Masters Degree, and Prosthodontic residency at that campus, where he focused his training in the placement, and restoration of Dental Implants. He has taught as an Associate Professor in the Research, and Restorative Departments at the University of Puerto Rico, and continues to hold privileges as a professor Ad Honorem in that institution. Dr. Alicea also completed additional training towards certification as an IV Sedation provider, at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
Dr. Alicea is a member of the Peer Review Committee for “The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants”, and regularly reviews articles prior to publication for this Journal. He is a also member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American College of Prosthodontics, Florida Prosthodontic Association, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, West Coast District Dental Association, Hillsborough County Dental Association, and also participates in the Seattle Study Club.
Dr. Alicea has an undeniable passion, and dedication for the dental profession. He has been practicing in the Greater Tampa bay area since 2007. He likes to give back to the community and participates of Dentistry from the Heart events. He loves spending time with his wife, daughter and twin sons.
