Dr. Mona Monzavi, DMD, MS Claimed

Dr. Monzavi is a Board-Certified periodontist and Implantologist.  She received her doctorate in dental medicine from the University of Pittsburgh and her certificate in advanced periodontology and implant surgery from Loma Linda University. She has been actively involved in dental research on themes of Periodontology, implantology, and regeneration since 2008.

At present, her research emphasizes in Zirconia dental implants. Her recent publication on this topic was awarded the certificate of outstanding research by the California society of periodontology and western society of periodontology. She is currently completing further pioneering scientific projects on Zirconia implants at the state-of-the-art research facilities including University of California Santa Barbara Microscopy and Microanalysis lab and INSA Lyon (Institut national des sciences appliquees de Lyon) in France.

Zirconia Implants :

Ceramic implants are tooth colored, esthetic, metal free and very tissue compatible.  Zirconia dental implants provide no allergic reactions and sensitivity to temperature and have an aesthetic advantage over titanium implants. Good esthetic results can also be obtained with titanium implants however in cases of gum recession, shrinkage and thin gums, titanium can reveal unsightly gray lines which will not be the case with regards to Zirconia implants.

In addition, it does not corrode and will not have any impact on taste in the mouth. Lastly, Zirconia implants are a viable alternative for patients who are not comfortable with or are not able to tolerate metal (titanium) implants in their mouths.

Ceramic implants used in our practice are manufactured in Switzerland. Dr. Monzavi has performed In Vitro and clinical studies and provided evidence of the effectiveness and reliability of these implants for clinical use.
