Dr. Carol Layton is a biological general dentist who practices mercury free, metal free, fluoride free and mercury safe dentistry. As a 1977 graduate of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Layton has delivered dental care for the last 38 years.  She practiced in and around Pittsburgh for over 28 years.  Several career moves took her all over Pennsylvania and then to Nebraska where she did wellness counseling.  In 2010, she moved to the Harrisburg area to continue her practice because she missed the trees and mountains that Omaha didn’t provide.

Dr, Layton is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International.   She is member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, the Harrisburg Dental Society, the American Association of Women Dentists, and The Academy of General Dentistry, and in 2013, she received an award with this group for her commitment to Life Long Learning and Service.  She has served all these organizations in a leadership capacity over the years.

Q Do you work with dental phobics?

Every patient that we see gets individualized attention from very caring and very thorough members at our practice. We especially enjoy working with people who are frightened or worried about visiting a dentist. We take extra time with those patients to make sure they understand exactly what is happening and feel comfortable with the process.

Q What will I need for my first visit?

Please arrive at least fifteen minutes early, and bring your driver’s license, list of all current medications and any dental insurance cards. Also, please download and fill out the New Patient forms. Bring them with you to your appointment.

Q What is involved with the initial first exam?

The initial exam will last approximately one hour and a half hrs in which we begin to get to know our patients both professionally and personally. We address any concerns you may have, take a set of full mouth X-rays (using our low-dose Digital X-ray machine), and review and discuss every xray with you. We take a full series of educational photographs so that we can tour your mouth together to help you understand what we see, and answer any questions and concerns you may have about your oral health care. We will also discuss and review together your complete medical history, medical concerns, medications and supplements. You will receive a head and neck exam, an oral cancer screening, and full TMJ evaluation. We will then complete a thorough intra/extra oral exam, review all of the clinical findings, and together create a customized treatment plan that fits your lifestyle.

Q Can I use my insurance?

We participate with many major dental insurances and are continually working to increase our insurance networks. At this time, we are in network with many of the United Concordia, Guardian, Aetna, Cigna Radius, Assurant Employee Benefits, and Dentemax insurances. Please contact your insurance to see if we are in your network.
