Dr. Ehsan Pourshirazi, or “Dr. Poursh” for short, is very excited to announce the opening of his dream dental practice. His desire to become a dentist stemmed from a very young age. After watching his eldest brother graduate dental school in 1994, Dr. Pourshirazi decided to follow in his brother’s footsteps and pursue his dream of becoming a dentist.

He graduated from University of The Pacific in Stockton, CA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He continued his education at the prestigious University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, CA and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Since graduating from dental school several years ago, he has continued to advance his knowledge, and is currently enrolled in Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany in pursuit of his Masters of Oral Implantology. The focus of his research is developing unique and innovative ways for dental prosthetics to attach to dental implants more effectively than those currently available.

Dr. Pourshirazi loves nature and outdoor activities. His goal is to do a sprint marathon by the end of 2015. He also enjoys skeet shooting and going to the driving range in his spare time.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

A healthy smile is one of the first and most important things we notice about a person. Consequently, this often makes missing teeth all the more noticeable. Dental implants are one of the most viable replacements available for your teeth. The benefits of dental implants are numerous: they look and function like normal teeth, allowing you to bite, chew, and speak with complete ease, while also stimulating the growth of jawbone tissue.

Benefitting Your Oral Health

When we lose our teeth, we also lose the regenerative signals that our tooth roots send to the jaw. When these signals stop, bone recession begins. The shape of your face will often change dramatically as your jawbone weakens. Implants are unique in that they replace both the tooth and its root so that the jaw receives restorative signals once more.

As a result, implants are often recommended over restorative options like dental crowns because they can:

  • Promote healthy tissue regeneration
  • Prevent jawbone atrophy and structural changes in the face
  • Protect surrounding teeth from shifting out of alignment

Most patients notice a considerable improvement in their oral health after receiving implants.

All-on-4 Dental Implants

The All-on-4® dental implant supported prosthesis, or denture, was invented for patients with minimal amounts of bone. Depending on the breadth and length of the jaw, it may be best for a patient to actually have more than just four implants.

This is not a cookie-cutter treatment plan or a one-size-fits-all. This treatment plan must be custom-fit for every patient. When you are evaluated for “all-on4” or “all-on-however many”, this will be a complimentary consultation with a complimentary Cone Beam Computerized Tomograph, or CBCT.

The ultimate goal of our treatment plan in an all-on-treatment plan is to achieve ultimate stability in your new denture. At GDS, you are going to depart our office on the day of your surgery with a brand new smile. You will have to have adequate implant support for that to occur. Sometimes, four implants are adequate, sometimes it is not enough. That is a case-by-case, mathematical determination.

Sometimes on upper dentures, there will be bone grafting that will be required into the sinuses. This is a very common procedure. If on rare occasion, there is a complication with a sinus graft, there can be a zygomatic implant placed. This is a procedure where the lower portion of the cheekbone is used to hold the implant in place. This may sound complicated, but it is commonplace for our GDS doctors! Call today to schedule your complimentary evaluation.

GDS also offers other dental implant supported prosthesis including snap-on smiles, including 2- and 4- implant retained dentures and when it is necessitated a bar prosthesis. These are all things that would need to be discussed with your GDS doctor.
