Q When should I take my child for their first dentist appointment?

The American Dental Association (and our dentists, Drs. Svetlana and Mikhail Gomer) suggest that you bring in your baby six months after their first tooth has come in or by the time they turn one.

Q How often should I visit the dentist?

You should aim to visit our MGS Dental office twice a year, or about every six months. This allows Drs. Svetlana or Mikhail Gomer to check for issues before they become serious.

Q How can I prevent tooth decay?

The best ways to prevent tooth decay are through a good diet and consistent oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing regularly are necessary to clear out any plaque and bacteria left over after eating. Drs. Svetlana and Mikhail Gomer also recommend steering clear of sugary foods and to eat a diet that’s rich in vitamins and minerals.

Q Is in-office teeth whitening better than store-bought teeth whiteners?

The ingredients in MGS Dental’s in-office whitening treatment are more potent than those found in store-bought whiteners, so you’ll see better results much faster. Also, store-bought whiteners can cause tooth sensitivity, where our process does not.

Q Can you fix a broken tooth?

If the damage is not extensive, most broken teeth can be fixed. A few options are porcelain veneers, where a thin sheet of porcelain is bonded to the front of your tooth to strengthen it, or dental bonding, which is where resin is molded onto the tooth’s surface to repair and cover any cracks. If the damage is severe, crowns are another option. Drs. Svetlana or Mikhail Gomer at MGS Dental can assess your smile to see which cosmetic option is best for you

Q How can I replace a lost tooth?

There are a few different ways to replace a missing tooth. One of them is dental bridges, which is a procedure where an artificial tooth is attached to the adjacent teeth to fill in any gaps caused by a lost tooth. Another option is dental implants, where a metal rod is embedded into the jawbone so an artificial tooth can be attached. If you are missing many teeth, you might want to look into all-on-4 implants or dentures. Drs. Svetlana or Mikhail Gomer can discuss the different tooth restoration options we offer with you.

Q Do dental procedures hurt?

At MGS Dental, we offer the option of anesthesia for all of our procedures, so you won’t feel any pain while the procedure is being performed. Some discomfort and swelling is normal in the days following your procedure, but the pain can usually be managed with over-the-counter painkillers.

Q What do I do if I have a dental emergency?

If you’re bleeding and the area won’t clot after about ten minutes, you should go to the emergency room. For most dental emergencies, though, it’s a better idea to see Drs. Svetlana Gomer or Mikhail Gomer as soon as possible. If a tooth has been knocked out, gently rinse it and keep it under your tongue or in your cheek until you can get to our office.
